The UHSSE esports team has a new coach for the 2024-2025 school year. English teacher Robert Burbank is looking forward to this new role and has different reasons for deciding to coach esports. “I’m into video games and I thought it would be a great avenue for the kids who don’t necessarily play other sports to jump in on the team for school and be a part of that community,” he said.
Playing esports also opens up opportunities for scholarships, Mr. Burbank recently became aware that colleges are giving money to play esports, so he feels this may be another way to help students have access to college.
Since he is knew to this role, former esports coaches Dennis Obie and Andy Eaton have been walking him through it since they have been running it for the last few years, but Mr. Burbank is looking forward to seeing the students play and see how they do and how they compete against other schools. There will be an esports showcase in October where students play against other people and are scouted by colleges.
If you are interested in joining the esports team, you may reach out to Mr. Burbank at [email protected] or stop by room 327. The team is excited for a great year.
