As the boys’ basketball season begins, excitement and determination are at the forefront for both the players and coaches. With a mix of returning upperclassmen and a strong freshman class, the team is focused on building success through daily hard work and commitment to fundamentals.
Head Coach Joseph Mugovero emphasized that the team has been practicing daily to prepare for the long season, focusing on key areas like defense, rebounding, and taking care of the ball. “We’re looking to make the states and win the state championship this year,” the coach shared. “One of our goals is to achieve 10 or more wins, and we’re putting in the work to make that happen.”
While the team brings talent and energy, challenges such as injuries, academic eligibility, and overall commitment remain obstacles they’ll need to overcome. Coach Mugovero also highlighted the difficulties of balancing academics and athletics, ensuring players are supported both on and off the court.
Despite the challenges, the coach is optimistic, especially with a few standout freshmen expected to make an immediate impact. The mix of new energy and experienced leadership provides a strong foundation. “I enjoy teaching fundamentals and competing at a high level. I want my players to learn how to work hard and work as a team to accomplish both team and individual goals,” the coach explained.
The team is not only preparing for success on the court but is also focused on playing the game with respect and integrity. “I want my players to play the game the right way—respecting referees, players, coaches, and themselves.”
This season, the team is determined to build on their strengths and achieve their goals. With a supportive environment and a focus on fundamentals, the players are ready to rise to the occasion, compete at their best, and bring excitement to the court for their fans.
As Coach Mugovero said, “It’s about putting in the work, staying committed, and playing the right way. I believe this team has what it takes.”
With hopes of a state tournament run and more than 10 wins, this season promises to be an exciting journey for the boys’ basketball team and their supporters.
