This month’s staff spotlight is on Dr. Fromerth! He has been teaching at UHSSE for 20 years, which is the longest he’s ever worked anywhere.
Dr. Fromerth mainly teaches chemistry, including Honors and UConn ECE. In the past he has taught Conceptual Physics and a Science Research class. He says his favorite part of UHSSE is that “I try to keep my classroom fun while maintaining high expectations for learning. In return, it’s the curiosity and enthusiasm of my students that keep me energized.”
He went to UConn for his chemistry degree and then earned his doctorate in physics at the University of Arizona. Dr. Fromerth also helps with clubs at school. He mentors the Science Bowl team, which practices every week to get ready for their competition at UConn. As well as the Safety Team, who check all of the safety showers and eyewash stations in the labs around the school.
Outside of school he has some cool hobbies. He loves gardening and raising chickens and he enjoys eating the fruits, veggies and eggs (“They don’t eat their hens”) from his work. He likes sports such as basketball, softball, frisbee, and running, and he even plays in a summer kickball league with another teacher.
At home, Dr. Fromerth’s wife is a veterinarian and they have two sons. Jonathan, who is a current sophomore at UHSSE, and Justin, who will be a freshman next year. Their pets include dogs, cats, some fish and even an axolotl!
We are so glad to celebrate Dr. Fromerth for all he has done for UHSSE.
