UHSSE Basketball Team Dominates the Season with Impressive Wins and High Spirits

Teamwork, Adrenaline, and College Dreams: UHSSE Basketball Players Share Their Love For The Game

It has been a great season so far for the UHSSE Basketball team. They’ve had seven amazing wins and still have five games to be played. They started off the season strong by winning 75 to 73 against Capital Prep and 71 to 50 against Achievement First High School. And they most recently have won 2 more games against AFHS and BHS. They hope to continue their streak and qualify for the league tournament and the state championships. They still have two more weeks left in their season and are very optimistic about how it will shape up.

The team and their coaches are incredibly proud of all the progress they have made so far and are glad to see even the number of people trying out increase. “The season was a huge success. Compared to last year they’ve already had 3 more wins and they still have five games to be played. As far as student participation numbers are up for tryouts so betweens numbers, participation, and wins things are looking in the right direction.” said Athletic director/Physical education/health teacher Anthony Mucciaro.

A common thing which many of the players love about doing basketball is the teamwork it takes and the spirit of the team overall. The way how it’s a sport not depending on one or two people but the whole team working together to achieve one goal. How they have to be able to communicate with each other what they have to do as individuals to help. “I love the competitiveness of the game and especially the connections and friendships that you make on the way to achieving your goals.” said Terrell Childs ’25.

When we asked some of the players what was their favorite thing about basketball, many of them said it was the thrill of the game, the amount of adrenaline they feel when there is only seconds left to go, and they are so close to winning. They believe that there is no other feeling like it in the world and that’s also why they love the game so much. “The intensity, like when the scores get close I feel like there are not a lot of sports that can match up the intensity of basketball especially during the game, at the end of it.” said Kevin Murray ’25.

Most of the players agree that they hope to play basketball in college as well and we wish them all well as they go off to college. “I think that the goal for most of us here is to get to play in college and that’s honestly why most of us are here.” said Usmam Ali. Overall it has been a great season thus far for the team and we hope for them to continue their winning streak.
