It has been an incredible season so far for the UHSSE outdoor track team. We have made great strides as a team and as individuals. We’ve had five meets so far this season and still have one more meet before the championships and states. There have been plenty of personal records for people and there will be plenty more to come.
Runners have really been pushing themselves this season and putting in the extra effort and time to improve at their meets. “The season has been going very well, although we’ve had a few injuries. It’s mostly from people trying to practice on their own as well, which has put extra strain on their muscles,” said Chelsea Thompson ‘26. The team has really been trying to push themselves at practice and on their own time in order to gain new personal records and push their limits. This season you can really see them pushing themselves to make their own achievements in their events.
Something about this sport that sets it apart from the others is that it’s a sport where even though you are a part of a team, your performance is all on you. You run your own races and are working to beat your own time. “In other sports a lot of how you do is determined by the other people on your team, but in track it’s all on you. So if you put in the work then you will see the results,” said Emmet Spaeth ‘25. Even though your teammates are always there to cheer you on, you have to be the one to push yourself. Every time you’re on that track you have the chance to prove yourself wrong.
One of the runner’s favorite things about this sport is the community and the people. When you are competing against each other, you still support each other and cheer for each other because you are doing it together. Even if you are running against someone you still know that you are going to cross the same finish line. “When you go to the meets it doesn’t matter what team you’re on, you’re always cheering for someone. Even if you have friends from a different team, even if you are running against them, they still want you to get better and get faster, and you do it together,” said Tanmay Thaker ‘24. Track and field is a sport where even though you are competing against one another you still hope for the best for each other and can count on the fact that if you needed it, they would carry you over the finish line.
It has been an amazing season thus far for the UHSSE track and field team. We still have the championships and states to go and are hoping to continue making great strides in our events and as a team.
