Have you ever thought about you or your child joining a sports team, but for the mind? Returning for the 19th season is our Connecticut State Champion robotics team! Robotics has officially been classified as a sport in Connecticut. The robotics team meets all throughout the school year and officially starts the season in January. The team gets a game theme and then gets a task to complete when the season starts. When Abhijith Tippereddy ’25 ( the design captain) was asked what the most exciting part of the season was, he said, “The most exciting part of the season has to be the theme.”
The team then gets 6 weeks to design, build, program, and wire their robot. After these 6 weeks, the team takes their robot to competitions and participates in a 3 v 3 match. 3 teams will work together to create an “alliance.” Everything taught to the new students is taught at industry level standards, so it also looks amazing on college applications. Freshmen are always encouraged to join clubs, so robotics is a really good thing to join! When Carl Allen ’27 ; a programming student, was asked for his thoughts on the most exciting part of the season, he responded, “I enjoy making new friends on other teams and learning as much as I can.”
The team had an incredible season last year as finalists in the Hartford District Event as well as the Where in Wolcott Invitational event. The team also became the Connecticut State Champions along with the teams from Southington and Colchester. If you’re interested in joining the robotics team, it meets on Fridays from 3pm to 6pm in the Robotics room.
