This past month, the University High School National Honor Society (NHS), has taken the time to put on a food drive. This was a very successful fundraiser with a total of 2,127 cans collected. The main leader of this year’s food drive fundraiser was Mohammed Ali ‘26. However this wouldn’t have happened unless he had peers.
This has given the UHSSE students a chance to earn up to 30 hours by donating food cans. They also helped give back to the Hartford community for the people in need.
You might be wondering the backstory to how this food drive has started.
Well, this fundraiser has been going on for 10 years. Thanks to a student 10 years ago who was passionate about giving back to the community and giving the school a chance to participate in that. This person did have connections with the person that led this community food drive to be able to start a tradition for the school.
This fundraiser is always a hit or miss with the amount of cans we get. It varies every year. This year we have grown from last year. Thanks to the school for making this fundraiser very successful, and to show who made a big difference as a school we would like to congratulate Mr. Dunn’s advisory for having the most amount of class with a total amount of 196 cans and right behind Mrs. Galenski’s advisory with a total amount of 170 cans.
As this fundraiser only happens once a year, NHS would like to give UHSSE other opportunities to support the community with:
- Blood drive during the spring
- Earth Day
If you would like to support the NHS and UHSSE community, please go see NHS advisor Mrs. Baseler.
