On Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7, the University High School Model United Nations (UN) club attended the yearly University of Hartford (UHart) conference. “I think the UHart conference went really well,” said Model UN President Isabella D’Agostino ‘25. “Although some people may have had a bit of confusion, I think it was a wonderful experience for them.”
The main purpose of this conference is to simulate how United Nations proceedings work and give students an opportunity to see it. D’Agostino also shared that this year there was a record number of schools attending the conference, with about 43 schools in total. She also shared that she is going to miss Model UN and hopes to do it in college.
One piece of advice that D’Agostino has for next year’s Model UN officers is to be heavily prepared for meetings and that you need to plan everything out and be ready for when you meet. Lastly, she said to try and recruit as many people to join Model UN as possible.
In conclusion, the 2024 Model UN UHart conference proved to be a significant milestone for University High School’s delegation, with record-breaking attendance. The conference not only gave students a whole new level of knowledge on the UN but also reinforced the importance of preparation and teamwork. This is a wonderful thing to be a part of.
