For the January edition of Staff Spotlight, we are highlighting Mr. Ed Machial, one of our beloved SPO’s at University High School. If you don’t know him by that, you may know him as Officer Ed. He’s always in the building making sure that everyone stays safe. One thing you may not know about Officer Ed is that he is a retired captain from the Hartford Fire Department. He served on the Hartford fire team for 22 years! 

Officer Ed has an associate’s degree in liberal arts. He spent his first year at UConn and spent the other year taking classes at both Capital Community College and Trinity College. 

When we interviewed Officer Ed, he was very excited to answer. He has been here for only about a year now. Officer Ed started the week before winter break last year. One of his favorite things about UHSSE is the students and being able to build relationships with all the returning and new students. He feels that being around the kids at our school gives him somewhat of a fresh perspective on things.
