The UHSSE Black Student Union (BSU) planned a variety of events for Black History Month. This included hosting Black Excellence Panels where they highlight inspiring individuals and their achievements. There are also more events coming up.
“We have a slot during Diversity Day and our annual Culture Night on March 21st, a vibrant celebration of heritage, music, community,” said BSU president Amerie Rodriguez ‘25.
In addition to these events, they have a few more guest speakers lined up for March, and they are currently planning two additional events for both April and May. In terms of how students and staff can support and participate in these events, Rodriguez said that they can sign up to come view and listen, as well as engage and attend events.
For themes this year, BSU focused on educating and teaching. “We strive to bring in speakers that students can relate to while also showcasing a variety of career paths to inspire and inform,” said Rodriguez.
The BSU has created opportunities for students and staff to learn, connect, and celebrate diversity by focusing on education, inspiration, and community engagement. With upcoming events like Culture Night and additional guest speakers planned for the spring, they are continuing to create an environment that highlights the importance of both representation and heritage. Remember to sign up for these events if you are interested.
