This edition of Staff Spotlight is on Mr. Daniel Duesing, a science teacher at University High School. He has been at UHSSE for the past three years. He earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Connecticut State University and his master’s and sixth year degrees from Central Connecticut State University.
Before he came to UHSSE, Mr. Duesing worked at Bulkeley High School, Classical High School, and Annie Fisher Montessori Magnet School. He has a degree in Biology, and a master’s and sixth-year degree in educational leadership.
When he is not teaching, Mr. Duesing can be found working on his farm (The 4 Five Farm) in Bloomfield, where he primarily raises chickens and sheep. When he was asked how his year is going so far, Mr. Duesing said, “It’s been pretty good; I’m very happy to be at this school.”
Mr. Duesing’s favorite thing about UHSSE is that we have a great mix of students who have a real academic focus. He said that during his first year at the school, he walked into the commons and saw a bunch of students by the windows, and he asked administration what was going on, and they told him that the honor roll was posted and there were about 50 students who were trying to see if they made the honor roll during the first marking period, and he was like, this is a different kind of place. He also enjoys teaching his biotechnology and environmental science classes.
