This past weekend, the robotics team competed at the Waterbury event, their first event of the season. At this event, they won the imagery award as well as the event. When we asked design captain Abhi Tippireddy ‘25 how the team did at the event, he said, “It went a lot better than we expected going into the event. We had a few minor setbacks, but in the end we pulled through and won the event.”
The team did have many issues throughout the event, including sections of the robot breaking apart, code issues, and issues with connection. Despite every issue that was thrown at the team, they managed to catch the attention of many with their coordinated outfits, their strategy of game play, and the vibe they gave off to other teams. This competition was a first for many members of the team, and they seemed to have fun! When we asked freshman Amir Bently ‘28 about his experience at competition, he said, “It was a pretty good experience. I got to see the robot that I helped build progress and work. I had a lot of fun.”
There are many more exciting things that the team is looking forward to for the rest of the robotics season. The students have many things to do to get ready for their next competition, like trying to rebuild the good parts of their robot, and coordinating more team spirit. When we asked Sophia Sorvillo ‘28 what she was excited about for the rest of the season, she said, “I’m excited to learn more skills and watch how our team gets better at the next competition.”
If you are interested in watching the team compete, they will be competing at the Hartford High School field house on March 30th and March 31st. With how well the team is doing, they may even be able to go to the district championships against all of New England!
