This year Diversity Day went very well. The UHSSE Pride Club is very happy with the way that everything turned out. “I think Diversity Day was an undeniable success this year, and the club agrees,” said Pride Club advisor Joseph Tarantino. “We had fewer presenters than last year, which we all agree went better because it allowed us to focus on a few meaningful workshops, versus many less meaningful ones.”
Every workshop that was arranged went great. Most of them all had over 15 students who registered to attend, and both students and presenters said that they were very happy with the experience. Mr. Joe Miller, a former UHSSE social studies teacher, came to present to students about being a first-generation college student.
All of the attendees also seemed to be deeply invested in the workshops. Mr. Tarantino said that he was very proud to see that the students were engaging with the guest speakers when he stopped in a room. They also had a lot more presentations that were student-led this year. The Black Student Union had two sections again this year, and they were also able to put in a workshop from the Cozy Cosmetics club.
In terms of how Diversity Day came into being, the Pride Club stands for the values of community, responsibility, and creating safe spaces. They felt that an event like Diversity Day would help to promote these values, and so they decided to do it.
They were extremely satisfied with the event this year, but they are open to expanding the opportunity for students to present at Diversity Day and would love to see more student groups next year.
Overall, Diversity Day 2025 was an enormous success, highlighting the values of community, responsibility, and inclusivity that the Pride Club and UHSSE embrace. Students and presenters both were able to connect more closely and engage in meaningful conversations thanks to the focus on smaller and stronger workshops.
