Culture Night was held this year on March 21 by University High School’s Black Student Union (BSU). Special performances/activities at the event included their step routine, which was a major hit with everyone who attended. Other activities included musical chairs and a dance battle which also gave the audience a lot of excitement.
BSU members are very pleased with how everything turned out.
“I think Culture Night went great! We had an amazing turnout, and so many people showed up. The atmosphere was lively, and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves,” said BSU president Amerie Rodriguez ‘25. “The food was a hit, and the music set a fun, energetic tone for the night. The activities kept people engaged, and the event felt like a big success overall.”
BSU did all of the planning for this event. However, they are open to collaborating with other clubs in the future for events like this. Things that they might do differently for future Culture Nights include the possibility of making the event a little longer because the night went by very quickly. Expanding the event could give them more time to have additional activities.
When asked about activities or ideas that they hope to include in future events, Rodriguez said that she and BSU vice president Nariyah Lindsay ‘25 would like to leave that decision to the next class. She wants them to have the opportunity to plan their own event. She also said that the planning process for Culture Night was very hands-on with generating ideas, and they went around and asked students and staff to participate, bring food, and get everyone involved. She added that even though there was a tight timeline, everything came out smoothly.
Culture Night was a spirited celebration of creativity, culture, and community that left guests with lasting memories of an engaging evening. In addition to showcasing the Black Student Union’s dedication and commitment, the event showed the value of inclusivity and collaboration.
