This month’s staff spotlight is on Mrs. Kate Grayeb, one of the math teachers in our school. She has been teaching for the past 13 years.
Mrs. Grayeb’s first job was at UHSSE after receiving her bachelor’s in secondary math education and master’s in curriculum & instruction from UConn’s Noyce School of Education. Mrs. Grayeb is also currently a fellow for UConn’s Noyce Math Teachers Leaders Program. It’s a five-year professional learning and service program aimed to advance equity in math education across CT. She believes this program has made an impact on the “thinking classroom” teaching model the math classes have adopted.
Coming to this school, Mrs. Grayeb was passionate about sports coaching the soccer and indoor track teams for a few years early on and then she was the head coach of the University/Classical softball team for 6 years. Unfortunately, she had to step back from that after she had her two kids.
Mrs. Grayeb is currently one of the Math Team coaches, and is also one of the advisors for the Pride Club. I also host an informal Guitar Club in my room during activity blocks for anyone who likes music.
Overall, Mrs. Grayeb’s favorite part of UHSSE is working alongside such a talented group of educators and the small school environment that allows me to see every student grow over the four years.
