On March 14th, University High School of Science and Engineering hosted the annual staff versus student volleyball tournament. The tournament was run by our school’s National Honor Society. Many society members helped to run the event by volunteering there. When talking to National Honor Society advisor Caryn Baseler, she said, “There were 10 teams that competed in the double elimination event, and all the teams had creative names.” This event encouraged students of all grades to participate and enhance their creativity by coming up with fun team names. This was such a great event for students to participate in, as students had to find teams to be on, whether that be with their friends or people they didn’t really know.
The NHS kids did our school proud because they were able to set up and run the whole event. The students were in charge of the clock, reffing the matches, organizing sign-ups, collecting the fee for students to play, and running the refreshments table. Many of the NHS students were able to take part in the tournament as well!
The tournament was a big success this year. There were many more spectators than at last year’s inaugural event! All the students had a lot of fun, and overall it was a great event for students to take part in. In the end, the teachers team won over the students and chose a charity of their choice. They ended up choosing for the money to go to the Center for Reproductive Rights. This donation ended up being around $600 in the end!
