The 2025 annual blood drive at UHSSE was a huge success as we beat our goal, which was 30 pints, and we surpassed that by collecting 38 pints.
Each pint can save up to three lives, which means our efforts could help save up to 114 people.
In total, 44 staff and students signed up to donate. Of those, 11 were staff members and around 33 were students. While not everyone was eligible on the day of the drive, 38 were able to successfully donate. Impressively, 73% of donors were giving blood for the first time, and we had more 16-year-old donors than ever before.
Behind the scenes, 34 student volunteers helped make the event run smoothly, assisting with sign-ins, donor support, and overall organization. Their dedication was a major reason the day went so well.
This tradition has been going strong at UHSSE for the past seven years. It originally began when students from the National Honor Society reached out to the Red Cross, and they were happy to welcome our school into the program.
Looking ahead to next year, there are a couple of changes we hope to make.
This year’s blood drive happened to land on the same day as parent-teacher conferences, a scheduling overlap that was planned a year in advance. We would also like to plan during a time period the gym classes are able to go outside. In the future, we hope to avoid that conflict.
Thank you to everyone who donated or volunteered; you truly made a life-saving impact.
